Ms. Penny on Retrieving the Language, one word at a time: part 1

*
With a little application, anyone can improve their mode of expression.
I had a rudimentary early education.
I do not remember myself inordinately enamored of words, in those days;
though I learned to read quickly and loved to write songs.
Nothing in my middle years exposed me to culture of the higher type.
You see, I spent the first 40 very odd years as a wastral.
That’s a person determined on destruction and the damage that goes along.
There were opportunities to better myself.
I blew them off, up or away.
*
Wasn’t til my Comeback from Nowhere in the ’80’s, my interest peaked.*
I had money for the first time in my life.
Bought me a little t.v.
That’s when I discovered that Perry Mason was still on.
His vocabulary included words like, “honor, beauty, integrity, justice”.
He inspired me to clean up my mouth.
*
Up til then I swore with impunity and delight.
I didn’t like what the words meant, but loved the sound of them coming out.
I commence to seek around for subsitutes.
Started watching Jeopardy.
I’d pick up new words by osmosis, used it incorrectly until someone elucidated me.
Gradually I built a vocabulary far beyond my station.
Nowadays, I glean from the History Channel, PBS, or the Wikipedia.
